Cornerstone has a formal reports area with a dedicated inventory section, which makes this one of the more straightforward systems to pull from. You are after two separate reports: one describing what is on your shelves right now, and one describing what moved over the last twelve months.
What you actually need
Four columns. Everything else in the report is optional, so do not spend time tidying the rest.
Item name
exactly as your system writes it
Quantity on hand
current units in stock
Unit cost
what you pay your distributor, not the client price
Units sold, one file per month
twelve separate monthly reports, not one twelve-month total
Two optional columns worth grabbing
If Cornerstone offers these, leave them in. They cost nothing at export time and they let StockSolve compare what an item should have earned against what it actually booked, which is what separates a vaccine bundled into a wellness plan from a charge that was simply missed. Nothing to map: if the columns are in the file, the engine finds them.
Unit price
the client-facing sell price. Often called Price, Retail, Sell or Charge
Sales revenue
what the item actually booked. Often called Revenue, Extended, Sales or Amount
Which reports to look for in Cornerstone
Report names shift between versions, so go by what the report contains rather than by an exact menu label. You are looking for two things:
1An inventory valuation or on-hand report, which gives you item, quantity and cost together.
2An item sales or practice statistics report that can be run by item across a date range.
Exact steps
Taken from IDEXX’s own documentation. Menu wording can still shift between releases.
1On-hand and cost: go to Reports > Find a Report > Inventory > Cost. This lists each item with its quantity on hand and cost value.
2Preview the report, then choose Save As and pick .csv (or .xls) so it opens cleanly in a spreadsheet.
3Sales history: go to Reports > Find a Report > End of Month > Cost of Goods Sold. Hold Ctrl + Shift to select twelve consecutive monthly periods in one run rather than exporting each month separately.
4If you want per-item sales detail instead, use Reports > Find a Report > Invoice Item > Invoice Item Sales Information, enter your invoice date range, click Preview, then Save As.
5For a historical on-hand snapshot rather than today, use Reports > Find a Report > End of Day or Month > Inventory on Hand by Class, Item and pick a closed period (Cornerstone 9.3 and higher).
Things that trip people up on Cornerstone
Cornerstone separates the item ID from the item description. Export the description, since that is what your other reports and your team will recognize.
Reports open in a preview window first. The Save As control lives in that preview rather than on the setup screen.
The Cost and Cost Totals reports are live and update with any transaction that changes quantity or cost, so they show today rather than a closed period. For a historical snapshot use the End of Day or Month version instead.
The date range on Invoice Item Sales Information reads the line-item date from a posted invoice, so widen the range if invoices straddle a month end.
